Most of us have been annoyed at one time by the sound of another chewing or breathing, but for some it goes way beyond annoyance. For those who suffer from misophonia, everyday sounds like gum chewing, lip smacking, or clicking a pen can induce feelings of outrage. Dr. Hallowell talks to Josh Furnas, a man who has suffered from misophonia since he was a young child, and Dr. Phillip Gander, an assistant research scientist at the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Iowa about this unusual condition.

As Dr. H puts it, children's author Dav Pilkey is a purveyor of love and tenderness. Through his extremely popular books, including the Captain Underpants and Dog Man series, Dav has brought laughter and joy to millions of kids and adults around the world. In this follow-up to our full-length episode this week, the author with ADHD and dylexia answers several questions we received from a class of 4th and 5th grade students at Green Acres Elementary School in North Haven, Connecticut. And Ned shares his own thoughts on Dav's books and message.

Beloved children's author Dav Pilkey joined Dr. H to talk about their shared "gifts" of ADHD and dyslexia, and the years of abuse that Dav suffered in elementary school. The creator of the wildly popular graphic novel series Captain Underpants, as well as Dog Man and many others, opened up about what it was like to have his desk permanently moved to the hallway in 2nd grade, the paddling he received from his teachers, and how unconditional love and support from his parents helped shape who he is today. Plus, hear about the inspiration behind some of Dav's most-popular characters, and how he used to sell books out of the trunk of his car!

Dav's latest book, Dog Man: Brawl of the Wild is available now! Learn more about Dav on his website, Planet Pilkey
