Roughly 80 percent of those with ADHD are diagnosed with at least one other psychiatric disorder sometime during their life. The most common are learning disabilities, anxiety, depression, sensory processing disorder, and oppositional defiant disorder, according to ADDitude Magazine. So what do you treat first? Dr. Hallowell tackles this question in today's mini.

In this mini Ned responds to  concerned mom who reached out about her 11-year old son who is struggling with telling the truth. She's tried various forms of punishment with little success and is concerned about her son ruining future opportunities and relationships because of the lying. Most of us have been annoyed at one time by the sound of another chewing or breathing, but for some it goes way beyond annoyance. For those who suffer from misophonia, everyday sounds like gum chewing, lip smacking, or clicking a pen can induce feelings of outrage. Dr. Hallowell talks to Josh Furnas, a man who has suffered from misophonia since he was a young child, and Dr. Phillip Gander, an assistant research scientist at the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Iowa about this unusual condition.

The talk focused on their experiences teaching young girls about Carol Dweck's groundbreaking findings regarding ability and achievement in life. In this episode, Darrah and Becky join Dr. Hallowell to talk about the differences between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset, and why productive struggle is a really good thing.
